Nissim is a Senior Managing Director at OrbiMed. He is a veteran of the life science industry, with 15 years of experience covering medical technology development, corporate leadership and investment management. Nissim spent eight years with Pitango, where he was a General Partner managing life sciences investments. Nissim was the founder and CEO of Impulse Dynamics, culminating $250 million realization event. Nissim obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. in Biophysics and Physiology from the Technion in Israel, and conducted his postdoctoral research at the NIH. He published over 100 patents, authored 20 publications and received 8 prizes and awards.
Michael has worked on the development of the concept of the Innovation Center for more than three years in his role as Merck Inhouse Consultant before taking over the lead of the Innovation Center in 2015. With an academic background in business administration, information management, and business education he joined the Inhouse Consulting department of Merck in 2010. In this role, Michael worked on different projects dealing with innovation management, strategy and business process management. Prior to that Michael held different international consulting roles at PA Consulting Group, Capco, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Michael received his diploma from the University of Mannheim in 2005.
Born in Zimbabwe, educated in England and Germany, at home in Darmstadt. Munya Chivasa, 31, has run the whole Merck Accelerator program from the company’s German HQ since June 2015. With a BSc in Biochemistry and Pharmacology as well as a master’s degree in Management, he is ideally qualified for the job. Munya helped conceive the Accelerator and is now responsible for its development, expansion, and smooth running. He also helps startups establish networks of external experts and investors.
Sophie Sun is currently Managing Director of Merck China Innovation Hub and Vice President of Merck Strategy and Transformation China. In this role, she leads the corporate efforts of driving strategic planning and initiatives of innovation and digitalization for Merck in China. Sophie is a member of the global leadership team of Group Strategy & Transformation, and a member of China Country Council for Merck. She is also the Chair of China Digital Council for Merck.
Dr. Po-Chang Lee is Director General of the Administration and also President of Taiwan Organ Registry and Sharing Center. He earned his Medical Doctor degree from Taipei Medical University and also graduated from the Graduate Institute of Technology Law of National Cheng Kung University. Dr. Po-chang Lee has deeply devoted his career to kidney transplantation and organ donation. Meanwhile, He was the Taiwan Medical Model winner of 2013 and also the Medical Contribution Award winner for the Special Contribution of 2017. Since he took office as the Director General of the National Health Insurance Administration in May 2016, various health care reforms have immediately been underway including reinforcing referral systems and building NHI Medicloud system which were highly appreciated by the medical community and the public. Further, Dr. Po-chang Lee won the top 10 managers of 2018 100 MVPs by Manager Today magazine and The Public Service Outstanding Group Contribution Award by the Examination Yuan.
Lenny Chen has spent the past 27 years in diversified areas in the healthcare industry. He brings a combination of artificial intelligence, strategy development, analytics, EMR/EHR, clinical operations, financial management, project management, and Health IT implementation expertise to healthcare institutions. As an Executive Consultant in IBM's Global Center of Competence in Healthcare & Life Sciences, he advises clients in developing their Advanced Analytics/AI strategy. Prior to this, as the Senior Manager of IBM Watson Health’s Clinical Adoption Team, he provided leadership and oversight for Clinical Adoption projects for Watson Health’s Oncology and Genomics solutions in Asia Pacific and China.
Hansen serves as Business Development Lead of Healthcare and Life Science Industry at Amazon Web Service, Greater China. He leads virtual sales and solution architect team to help customers adopt AWS. Hansen was Country Manager of Inception program at NVIDIA. He was also General Manager at Intel Digital Health and Life Sciences business development team of China. He also was key founder and organizer of China Hospital Information Management Alliance Vendor Club, Continua-China committee, China Healthcare Innovation Enterprise Alliance. He helped the government formulate many IT standard of healthcare in China. Hansen has Bachelor’s of Chemistry from Zhejiang University and EMBA from City University of Hong Kong.
Irene is a purpose-driven people leader, with a track record of leading team and business transformation to accelerate business growth. She has 20 years of experience in general management, global strategy development and marketing management in the biopharmaceutical industry, and is currently the General Manager of Roche Pharma Taiwan, a global R&D-based biopharmaceutical company. Irene is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Yi Yang is a seasoned MedTech executive/entrepreneur. Yi is the co-founder and CTO of Imperative Care, a start-up that is dedicated to finding answers to unsolved problems in stroke. Prior, he was COO of Ostial Corporation, overseeing development, production, and commercialization. Previously, he was co-founder and VP of R&D at CAVU, a medical device startup developing novel technologies for the treatment of obesity. Yi held senior management roles at Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX), EndoTex Interventional Systems, Inc. and EP Technologies, Inc. Yi is the inventor or co-inventor on multiple patents. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
Eric is a Managing Director of TransLink Capital and invests in startups globally at the intersection of health and information technology and next generation retail technologies and services. He supports TransLink’s portfolio companies to engage in Asia and leads the firm’s investment activities in Israel. Eric was the Founding Managing Director of the SOFTBANK Asia Infrastructure Fund (SAIF), a venture capital fund launched by SOFTBANK Corporation in partnership with Cisco Systems in 2000. Eric earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard College and is a certified acupuncturist.
Arun is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Quartet, a technology company transforming mental health. The Quartet platform enables collaboration between physical and mental health providers, targeted care suggestions, and expansion of mental health resources available to patients. Quartet is based in New York with 200+ staff and has raised over $150 million of capital from leading venture capital firms. Prior to founding Quartet in 2014, Arun serially built technology companies as a General Partner at Accretive. He also held roles at Palantir, McKinsey, and The World Bank. Andrew Liu is a senior deep learning solution architect at NVIDIA. He assists customers in building innovative solutions based on NVIDIA technology. His research interests are in the area of applying machine learning algorithms to real-world problems. Prior to NVIDIA, Andrew was a machine learning engineer at Foxconn. He took the lead of the analytical team, developed various kinds of predictive modeling projects centered around manufacturing processes, including defect inspection and predictive maintenance, etc. During the Ph.D. program, he has worked as a visiting scholar at Los Alamos National Laboratory's BioScience Team, working on Human and Environmental Microbiome Projects.
Dr. Gunjan Bhardwaj is the Founder and CEO of the Innoplexus AG. Previously, he was with the Boston Consulting Group and also leader of the global business performance think-tank of Ernst & Young. Gunjan was also partner, senior-editor, and advisor for an online innovation management journal and was a member of the scientific advisory board of a US based non-profit institute researching in complexity sciences in the healthcare industry. Gunjan is a keynote speaker and author of many patent applications and publications in scientific and business journals such as Harvard Business Review. Gunjan teaches at Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.
Tony Chang, Ph.D., MBA, joined Ventures as an analyst in 2016 and transitioned into an Associate with the New Businesses team in April 2017. In this role, Tony has evaluated early stage venture deals spanning across a variety of emerging technology fields, including topics such as vocal biomarker to cultured meat. Prior to M Ventures, Tony was a technology commercialization officer at the University of Western Cape in South Africa where he was responsible for the development of several industry research collaborations and licensing deals. Previously, Tony was a consultant in the strategy practice of EY in Johannesburg.

Darren Toh, ScD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. He is a pharmacoepidemiologist with an interest in the comparative safety and effectiveness research of medical products. His research has been focused on 1) assessing the risks and benefits of medical products using electronic data collected as part of routine healthcare delivery, and 2) developing and applying privacy-protecting analytic methods to conduct multi-center studies in distributed data networks. Darren received his doctoral degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Naoki Ikegami is Professor at the School of Public Health, St. Luke’s International University, and Professor Emeritus at Keio University, Tokyo. He was Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Keio School of Medicine, from which he received his MD and PhD. He also received a Master of Arts with Distinction in health services studies from Leeds University (United Kingdom). He has been a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and Medical School, and President of the Japan Society of Healthcare Administration and the Japan Health Economics Association.
Ms. Janice Chia is Founder & Managing Director at Ageing Asia Alliance, Singapore. Janice started Ageing Asia to drive and nurture opportunities and the development of innovation and solutions that address the evolving needs of the rising aging population. Alexei Mlodinow, founding CEO at Surgical Innovation Associates (SIA). Alexei is a researcher, inventor, and Forbes 30-Under-30 entrepreneur. Nohémie Mawaka is founder of Stats Congo, a Grand Challenges Canada’s Stars in Global Health grant winning idea (2018). She partnered with the Panzi Foundation and a hospital in Bukavu, founded by Nobel Prize winner Dennis Mukwenge, to pilot Stats Congo which aims to create a centralized database of women and children’s health outcomes in the DRC. The idea was scaled using an open source software implemented in computers (MVP), making her a Forbes 30 Under 30 (2018) finalist. Stats Congo is moving forward and strategically implementing this social enterprise within the emerging markets of digital health space.
Manuri Gunawardena is the founder and CEO of HealthMatch, a healthcare technology startup that aims to connect sick patients with clinical trials of potential cutting edge treatments. As a medical student she witnessed patients who had exhausted all traditional medical options, yet struggled to find and access potentially life saving clinical trials. HealthMatch has raised $1.3 million in capital from Australian and U.S. industry leaders and won the inaugural Australian version of TechCrunch Startup Battlefield. Manuri was named as the featured honouree in Forbes 30 Under 30 - Asia - Healthcare & Science 2019.
Rahul used to live as a monk in India, but now is a resident with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Internal Medicine/Cardiology. He obtained an MBA at Oxford and an MPH at Harvard. He serves as a National Strategy Advisor for Pallium India, helping scale palliative care operations within the country, and has founded OnTrackBirths: an endeavour bringing maternal care to vulnerable populations on trains. He was a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital before returning to clinical practice in New Zealand, working on optimizing Rheumatic Heart Valve disease management in the South Pacific.
Dr. Chen has backgrounds of medicine and biomedical engineering. He and two STB fellows, Alan and Carson, co-founded the company, iXensor Inc. iXensor focuses on mobile health solution. The PixoTest POCT system and Eveline ovulation system got many awards including Japan Good Design, CES babytech, Taiwan Excellence, and MEDICA mHealth Summit. Dr. Chen also founded another startup company, Brain Navi Ltd., which focuses on innovative navigation system of brain surgery. NaoTrac, the AUTOPILOT brain surgical system, integrates advanced sensing technologies, AI and robots to improve the accuracy and decrease the learning curve for neurosurgeons.
Jack Pearson is the Co-founder of Cobotical, an automation consultancy that develops custom robotic solutions for clients in logistics, agriculture and healthcare. He also advises venture capital firms, supporting them with the identification and selection of deep tech start-ups. Currently Jack is working with Big Idea Ventures on the launch of their first fund. For his efforts promoting innovative technology, the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering awarded Jack an Enterprise Fellowship and sponsorship for one year. He received his MEng in Engineering Design from the University of Bristol, where he now teaches a short course on commercialising innovation.
Chris is Co-founder and Head of Product at Kiipo, a health-technology social enterprise aiming to make the most advanced health technologies accessible to all. He leads cross-functional design-driven product teams, creating AI-powered products. Chris is widely recognized internationally for having created Ethiopia’s first full-circle Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system—alongside Kiipo Co-founder Jordan Masys—and is a leading voice in integrating design with technology to create real-world impact. Chris is also the founder and President of the nonprofit organization PhysioQ, a platform that promotes medical science breakthroughs with its data collection toolkit. He is also a mentor for Design for Taiwan.
Professor Chen graduated from the Department of Medicine, National Yang-Ming University, and earned his doctor’s degree from the Institute of Health and Welfare Policy, also in National Yang-Ming University. Now, he is the Director of Geriatrics and Gerontology of Taipei Veterans General Hospital and the Director of Aging and Health Research Center of National Yang Ming University at the same time. Prof. Chen is the editor of several international journals focused on geriatrics and and gerontology. He has over 300 publications surrounding the topic.
Chia-Ming Chang is Associate Professor and Director, Division of Rehabilitation & Community Psychiatry, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital at Linkou. Dr. Chang is also currently serves as President of Taiwan Association Against Depression, Member of Council, Taiwan Society of Suicidology, and Secretary General, Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry. Dr. Chang’s research interest is psychiatric epidemiology and has included PTSD, suicide, depression, and big data analysis.
Dr. Tang holds an MD and Master of Psychiatry from Kaohsiung Medical University. He also has a PhD in Psychotherapy, Department of Cardiology, National Taiwan Normal University. He has been a researcher at TISCH Hospital, New York University and at a seminar at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. Dr. Tang is a senior medical psychiatric outpatient director, senior attending physician and senior psychotherapy supervisor. He has more than 20 years of clinical experience. He has served as a consul of the Spiritual Society and the Society of Psychotherapy. Dr. Tang also has served as a government counseling committee member many times.
Lily Born is an internationally recognized student inventor. Her first invention was a no spill cup created for her grandfather when she was 7. She has since produced and sold tens of thousands of the cups throughout the world and been recognized by CNN Heroes as a young wonder, and the US Whitehouse and featured in the Smithsonian Museum of American History as well as Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth as well as myriad other publications throughout the world. At 16, she has applied for over ten international patents on the cups and other aids to daily functioning.
Chun-Cheng Huang graduated from the Department of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University. He is currently a surgeon at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, National Taiwan University Hospital. All of the members at the National Taiwan University Hospital Organ Transplant Team are aware of their capabilities, and always do their best to their mission. They work extremely hard to overcome obstacles to save lives; however, if there is another opportunity, they may wish to fight for the patients' dignity too.
Dr. Pang-Yun Chou, graduated from the Department of Medicine of Chang Gung University and completed six years of residency training in Plastic Surgery, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. His expertise is orthognathic surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, and reconstruction of craniofacial trauma. He has also worked as a one-year research fellowship at University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center(UTSW) in 2016. Currently, he is a craniofacial surgeon at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
Yu-Wen Liao, graduated from the Department of Public Health and Food Science, Fu Jen Catholic University. She has a strong motivation to voice for the medical personnel in Taiwan, thus, she joined Medical Labor Reform Task Force to help to fight for the rights and benefits of medical practitioners since 2015. In addition, she helped the establishment of Taipei Doctors Union and National Taiwan University Hospital-Union in 2017 and 2018. Currently, she is keeping her faith in fighting for healthcare workers as an union organizer in Taipei Doctors Union.
Wei-Hsiang Liao was born in Tainan and received his MD degree from National Cheng Kung University. Liao holds a master's degree in health services and systems research from Boston University School of Public Health. His thesis focused on the population-based payment reform in the United States. He is also one of the founding members for both "Public Medicine Times" and "Tainan Sprout". Dr. Liao joined both Medical Labor Reform Task Force and Taipei Doctors Union.
ChanHaw Liu, has appreciated freedom since he was a student and is a medical student at Taipei Medical University. Now, he is currently working as a roadblock (clerk) in Shuang Ho Hospital. Now, he is still an uncertificated doctor, yet, an ACLS certified technician. Also, he was a volunteer in TimeMap social enterprise, a non-profit organization.
Jack Yang is a medical student with full of positive energy. He worked in Tokyo for two months as a translator before his college life started. During his sophomore year, he founded the first international "2017 Taiwan WHO Simulation" in the Asia- Pacific region which invited more than 300 medical students including 100 medical students from more than 10 countries. In addition, he also founded the iGEM CSMUxNCHU team and won the 2 nominations at the genetically-engineering competition organized by MIT. Currently, he is working in Chung Shan Medical University Hospital as a clerk while also working for his family business. "Execution immediately after imagination" is what Jack pursues.
Miranda Chen is a nutritionist and also an instructor who focuses on diabetes and related topics. She has received a Bachelor's degree from Department of Nutrition, Chung Shan Medical University and a Master’s degree from Department of Food Science and Biotechnology, National Chung Hsing University. Aside from her excellent academic performance, she was also ranked 5th among all the nutritionists in Taiwan in 2010. Currently, she is running the audio-visual platform, " 營養嫚嫚說", on Facebook and YouTube, which provides practical nutrition knowledge to the public.
Dr. Yu-Chih Liu has established "Care Online", an online medical platform, based on his medical professional and online experience.
